Umoja Children's Home Story

Founded in August 2003 amid the challenging era of widespread HIV impact, Umoja Children's Home stands as a beacon of hope, fostered by the dedication of Juliana, Joseph, and the entire Umoja family.  Juliana's brave initiative rallied the community, leading her son Joseph and daughter-in-law to join the cause. For over two decades, they have navigated obstacles, from combating AIDS to ensuring education, health, and love for the children. Supported by the community, schools, hospitals, and volunteers, Umoja Children's Home has become a leading orphanage in Bomet.

Driven by pure kindness and a passion for children's safety, the Umoja family operates as a cohesive unit, where each member contributes to the home's well-being. Despite initial reservations, Joseph embraced leadership, showcasing selflessness and genuine concern for the children.  Upholding principles of non-financial motivation and being a "true person," Joseph and Juliana exemplify true leadership, rejecting opportunities that do not align with the children's best interests. Umoja thrives on a familial ethos, with everyone participating in farm work, cleaning, cooking, learning, and caring for each other.

Operating under the principles of "Know God, Education, and Health," Umoja ensures holistic child welfare, emphasizing spiritual and intellectual development alongside physical well-being.

The Umoja story is a testament to compassion and collective effort, proving that positive change is achievable, even in the face of formidable challenges. While the journey is ongoing, Umoja remains open, welcoming those willing to contribute kindness, get to know them, and join their beautiful family.

"You must not only look after the children; you must love them. If you love, they love; if they love, you love. When they see your face, you must show the love first".
